Big Skylights

Today we were in Fort Langley working on an EPDM rubber roof with leaking skylights. There were many possibilities as far as what was the cause of the leak. It could have been the rubber at the base of the curbs. It could have been a pin hole 20 feet away from the drip location because it was on a posi-sloped metal roof deck and I’ve seen water travel in the channels of a metal deck for 100 feet before. No lie!

Turns out after we disassembled all 3 of leaking skylights that it was indeed the domed acrylic skylight. A factory detail that was destined to fail at some point in it’s life span. I guess that keeps the skylight manufacturers in business. We sealed here and caulked there and feel pretty confident we got it. You never can tell with most leaks though. Unless you find an axe sticking out of a roof (as a cause of the leak) there is never any possibility of 100% certainty that you found the one and only cause. I told my customer I was confident…. but not cocky.
