Case Study

1. The old tar and gravel roof was removed and the shiplap boards exposed. The customer wanted a clean looking roof so we cut holes for 8x8 low profile gooseneck vents.

2. The recovery board is nailed and the base ply membrane fully torch applied.

3. The cap sheet has been applied and cap sheet stripping around the skylight curbs is complete. A 4x4 skylight was chosen so curb modifications had to occur for appropriate sizing. 2x4 lumber was adequate enough to extend the curb to the desired dimensions.

4. A thick and wide foam tape was attached to the curb previous to 2x4 installation to ensure an airtight seal above granular membrane level.

5. The exposed wood was water proofed more so to prevent decay rather than to ensure no leakage occurred.

6. The skylight is then laid to rest and then screw fastened.

7. The completed roof will benefit from the 3 new ceiling space vents as will the owners with a reduced interior temperature during those hot summer days.

8. The completed roof drains down to the far end with a 1% slope providing incentive.

9. The 2nd of 2 completed skylights. Note the membrane detail around both the skylight curb and the brick chimney curb. “Stripping” is a critical step in the completed roofing system process. This job is completed with the exception of the cap flashing installation around the perimeter edge including the chimney. The skylight upgrade was not typical but customer satisfaction is high and Crucial is happy with the result.

The customer wanted a clean looking roof so we cut holes for 8×8 low profile gooseneck vents.In this project we re-roofed a tar and gravel with a Soprema membrane system. For most installations, a torch-on membrane roof makes and ideal replacement.

We installed low profile gooseneck vents for a clean look. Two skylights were installed. 3 new ceiling vents were also added to improve ventilation and reduce interior heat.
