Winter re-roofing, Vancouver, BC

Winter re-roofing, Vancouver, BCSnow. It’s happening more and more in Vancouver. Just so happens here in North Delta we get more than our fair share. Something about the geographic location and altitude. So what effect does snow have on a roof? Let’s just think about that. We hear about flat roofs caving in from the weight of a wet and heavy snow. It’s rare but it can happen. Usually on large span roofs with under-engineered structural support. Houses should never be at risk. Leaks happen with snow too. It builds up and gets into places that rain could never reach. Does your roof need to be redone because it leaks in the snow? Not usually. But perhaps a specific detail needs to be modified so it doesn’t happen every time it snows though. There are always questions about whether a home owner should go on his roof and remove the snow load. It’s really not recommended. Usually more damage is done then benefit returned. Most roofing companies do not send many trucks out on snowy days. The roads are slippery and the roofs are slippery. It’s not a good risk scenario. Me? I stay home and write blogs.
