Burnaby Re-roof Project

The old roof is torn off and the new roof system is started with installation of a thermo-fusible torch safe base board. This layer is mechanically fastened to the plywood roof deck.

The other side of the home still has the old shingle roof system and all our materials placed on it.

Once the field membrane is torch-applied to the base board the perimeter detail is installed. This process is called “stripping” and is a step that is, unfortunately, omitted by certain installers that are lacking in integrity and do not place much emphasis on system performance.

One side of the roof has been based in and it is now the turn of the other side to get based in also. Once this process is completed, the roof is water tight.

The base board is down and we are half way to completing the field on the base ply. At this junction the protrusions, such as vents, stacks and drains are also installed and waterproofed.

Close placement of the disposal bin is required for an efficient removal process. If we can’t position the bin nearby the roof we are forced to drop the old roof on the ground and then pack it out to a bin that is placed on city property. This is called a drop-and-pack and costs the home owner additional labour fees.

We also included sealing of the brick chimney on this job. We use a Kryton Hydrostop product to ensure this concrete work does not become moss covered. This sealant has exceptional performance and is virtually undetectable until you notice the water “beading” on the surface.

The chimney is flashed in the same 26 gauge metal as the entire perimeter edge is.

All flashing details are installed according to RCABC standards. This detail is called a standing seam.
