There was a odd detail of metal along the ridge. It had an angled kick which trapped water along the edge of the flashing. This was counter-productive in that there were also hex-head fasteners right along this edge resulting in those fasteneres sitting in a puddle. It would be quite easy for water to travel along these fasteners and in under the metal. We caulked them sealed.
The chimney was also a strong possibility for a cause of ingress so we caulked wherever there was a breach in the old sealant
More chimney caulking was required on another corner
The front of the chimney also had ingress possibilities. All potentials had to be addressed as there was no obvious #1 cause.
Although the field fasteners are on top of the metal roof ribs, there was still possibilities in that some of the screws were not tightly screwed down. We snugged them and caulked the heads.
We solved a leak in this house 4 months previous at a different location on the roof. They were happy with that service so they called us back when they unfortunately got a new leak in a different area of the house. We go on the roof and find whatever deficiencies we can see around the leak area and fix them... then we cross our fingers and wait for Mother Nature to test the work. We win most times
