On this roof repair, someone else had already tried to fix it before, with layers of cedar shingles. That’s not an appropriate patch solution, and the raccoons returned to the same place. It’s funny how the raccoons do that… but they do.
I removed all the loose material and what remained of the layered shingle patch. Once I was back to one layer I began the reassembly. I used brown metal shims as reinforcement below the shingles.
The idea here is that when the raccoons return they will now have to claw their way through metal. Hopefully that throws them off and they move on to another roof.
