We were called to this job site to explore a roof leak on a rainy day. The owner had drips coming from a light fixture over the upper hallway area in the center of the house. She was leaving town in two days and wanted the issue resolved promptly.
The primary roof area is waterproofed using a Columbia concrete roof tile however there is a small flat roof portion on the top of the house that has a torch on membrane. Although the upper flat roof area was not done in a high quality roof system it was still an acceptable roof. However, it was the top flat area I concentrated on with regards to finding the cause of the ingress. Everything looked decent and we could find no obvious issue. I’ve experienced fatigue in copper drains before so I knew I had to go into the attic and view the underside of the drain bowl. It was then I noted small pin holes in the copper and witnessed water entering the attic through them. I knew we had to install a new drain to resolve the leak issue.
